Great Recipes

Preparation Time:  Purchasing time

Duration:  15 Minutes

Ingredients needed: Recipe cards, envelopes

This activity gathers a batch of tried and true recipes for a new bride to try out.  Guests are sent a recipe card in the invitation, and are asked to write their favorite recipe on it and bring it to the party.  At the party, the cards are collected, then placed in a nice recipe box or book and presented to the Guest of Honor.

Preparation

You'll need to purchase recipes cards, enough for one for each guest, plus an extra batch to place in the box for the future.  If you know the bride's decorating plans for her kitchen, you should try to get something appropriate to match.

Insert the recipe card in the invitation, then include instructions to the guests on what they should do.  You can encourage them to incorporate their recipe as part of their gift (a homemade spaghetti sauce recipe might be attached to a large saucepot and ladle).

Have the box ready at the party, collect the cards and present it to the bride.  You can collect the cards outright, or you can go around and have each person talk about their recipe.  Or, if you've asked them to incorporate the card in the gift, you can collect the recipes as the bride opens her presents.

Helpful Stuff

Check to see if the bride has a preferred method of keeping her recipes.  I personally have a great recipe box already, but I wouldn't mind a few sure-fire recipes to add.  You can also state the bride's dietary restrictions, if any, in the instructions - vegetarian, diabetic, whatever.

Variations

One variation of this is to make the recipe card the actual invitation!  Pick up some cards suitable for printing, then print the invitation on one side, and ask the guest to fill in the recipe on the other.
