Movie Clips

Preparation Time:  Hours, even days

Duration:  15-30 minutes

Ingredients needed: Various movies, the right recording gear

Description: This game requires a LOT of preparation time, but its really worth it if the Guest of Honor is a movie buff!  The guests are shown a video containing 10 or so clips from various movies.  They have to identify the movie title and the relevant character(s).

This game can be done for both Bridal and Baby showers.  I've done wedding scenes for a movie themed bridal shower, and Disney Babies scenes for a Disney themed baby shower.

Preparation

Once you've picked a theme for your clips, start finding the right movies.  We borrowed a lot of our movies from other people, so we only had to rent two to complete our sets.  Plan the order of the clips - try to intersperse long scenes with short ones, too many short scenes in a row doesn't give people time to write down their answers.

I first did the before digital recordings were as easy to work with, so I worked with VHS tapes, copying the scenes from the original to a new blank tape.  Now there are lots of options for recording and manipulating digital media - choose the one that you know the best to work with.

When  you're ready to show the video, make sure your room is arranged so everyone can see the screen.  Tell them what they're supposed to do before you start the video, and give them paper and pen

For a wedding clips video, they should write down the movie, then the names of the bride and groom.  Actor names are extra credit.

For a baby clips video, they should write the name of the movie and the name of the baby.

One nice thing about this game, while the guests are watching the video, you can go and prepare the next game or the food or the gifts.  Free time!

Helpful Stuff

Here's a list of wedding scenes that are fairly recognizable and might appeal to a wide range of ages.  When I created my tape, I put them in chronological order - the betrothal, wedding plans, wedding jitters, the ceremony, the reception, etc.

  • Any of the Little Women movies - Meg should have a wedding scene in each of them.
  • Four Weddings and a Funeral - watch the language in this one!
  • The Muppets Take Manhattan - there's a long scene where they sing about getting married
  • Seven Brides for Seven Brothers - either the June Bride sequence or the multiple shotgun wedding at the end
  • The Sound of Music
  • The Graduate
  • Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves
  • The Princess Bride

Remember, you can't sell the tape that you create or sell tickets to people to watch it.  I'm sure that breaks all sorts of laws somewhere.
