Around the Calendar

Description:

This theme is similar in concept to the Around the Clock theme, and involves the guests a great deal.  It works well for parties with more than 12 guests.  In the invitations, assign a month of the year to each guest.  Double up on some, to ensure continuity when you open the gifts.  Each guest brings a gift based on the month they've been assigned or with a creative reason to use it in that month.  For example, if a guest is assigned July, they could bring a picnic basket with picnic supplies, sparklers and various 4th of July paraphernalia, all wrapped in red, white & blue paper.  When opening the gifts, start in January and work your way through the year. You could describe the important events in that month, include some specific to the Guest of Honor.

  • Decorations

Calendars!  Also, holiday decorations from all kinds of holidays - this is a great way to recycle all those holiday decorations lying around.

Another nice idea is to have a large calendar out, and have everyone write their birthdays, anniversaries and other important dates on it, then give the calendar to the Guest of Honor.  Don't forget the due date or wedding date!

  • Invitations/Prizes

Your invitations can be a calendar page or a whole calendar.  Be sure to explain the entire concept, it might not be immediately understandable.

Prizes can be nice calendars - or for the Guest of Honor, one of those electronic "counting down" calendars that came out for the millenium.  You can find them now for Weddings and Births.
  • Food

A nifty cake that looks like a calendar can be made out of sheet cake.  You can either pipe a whole month onto it, or turn it sideways and make it a single day calendar sheet with the date of the wedding or the due date on it.
