Cooking

Description:

The Bride is about to start a new life in her own home, and all she can cook is Spaghettios and toast.  Hmmm.  Wouldn't it be nice if you could provide her with some kitchen basics?

There are lots of ways to do a cooking themed party, these are just my ideas:

  • Have each guest bring a favorite recipe, and their gift would be related to it - the specific kitchen tools, appliance or dish that is needed for the recipe.  Or they can bring all the ingredients to stock the new kitchen.  There's a game link below that details sending out recipe cards for this activity.
  • Organize the party around preparing a meal - everyone ends up in the kitchen anyway.  The first part of the party is preparing the meal - using items provided by the guests.  The second part is of course, eating!
  • Decorations

Aprons can be thumbtacked to the walls or hung from available hooks or knobs.  Borrow some from friends to give some variety.

You could also have everyone come wearing their favorite apron - especially if everyone is pitching in!

Strange or antique cookware - hand mixers, cast iron skillets, coffee grinders - can be placed around the room for atmosphere.

  • Invitations/Prizes

Invitations for a kitchen or cooking party can be in all kinds of shapes - pans, refrigerators, etc.  Be sure to detail any instructions for your guests.

Prizes can be kitchen gadgets or towels, gourmet food items, aprons, or - hee hee - gift certificates to local restaurants.

  • Food

Well, food is the focus here.  Be creative and inventive.  You could also get extravagant and have it catered.  OR put the pressure on the Bride and have her prepare the food with some of her new tools!

Game Suggestions

Strange Utensils - This is a great way to give the Guest of Honor a bunch of stuff she won't know how to use!

White Stuff - This could be an educational game.

Spice Jars - Make sure you pick spices that can be used by a beginning cook.

Favorite Recipes - This could be your invitation!
